Top Ten Tuesday (101)

Ten Books That Celebrate Diversity/Diverse Characters
I don't have 10 for this week's post, but here are some of my favorite diverse YA books!  They all contain some element of diversity in their stories, such as non-white characters, characters living with a disorder or disease, or non-straight characters.  My biggest wish is that one day the label "diverse" is no longer needed, because there would be such a wide variety of books for people reading YA or any type of literature.  What are some of your favorites?

1. Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
-I think most people tend to overlook the fact that this new book actually brings attention to a disorder that isn't well known or talked about.  I can't state the actual disorder the main character in Bone Gap has because it would be a spoiler since he doesn't find out till close to the end, but it did add an element of diversity to this outstanding book, which was one of the reasons I loved it so much!
2. To All The Boys I'ved Loved Before & P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
-These two books are some of my absolute favorites and feature a female protagonist who is half Korean, half white, and downright hilarious.  One of my favorite aspects of these two books is learning more about Lara Jean's Korean family and lifestyle, including some of the foods they eat and clothing they wear to see relatives.
3. The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Adhieh
4. City of A Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster
5. Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick
-Written in verse about the life of a girl recovering from self-harm, this book is equal parts heart-wrenching and beautiful.
6. The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan
-The main character is a boy who was born with albinism and throughout the story you learn a lot about the health risks people living with this condition have to deal with.
7. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
8. The Raven Boys & The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
