Top Ten Tuesday (90)

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Broke and the Bookish!

I'll be real honest.  This week many of the books you'll see on my list are considered classics, and I know there are many bloggers out there who are going to cringe just looking at some of the titles I've listed.  Honestly though, I made it a goal of mine to read some classics this year, but I'm just not getting on with most of them.  For me, many of them just aren't my cup of tea.  So I mean no offense to anyone out there who loves any of these books!  Without further ado..

Top Ten Books I Will Probably Never Read
1. Lolita by Vladimir Nabakov
2. The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling
-This is one I have tried numerous times to read now, and have never managed to get through.  I don't think I'll ever finish it!
3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
-Sorry friends, but stop recommending this one to me!  I will probably never even pick it up!
4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
5. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
6. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
7. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
8. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
9. The Awakening by Kate Chopin
10. The Ilead by Homer

  1. I finally made it through The Casual Vacancy this year and I've got to be honest -- it's not great.

I listened to Lolita on audio book and found I preferred that.

  2. The Casual Vacancy was on my list too. I probably wouldn't read any of the books you've put on your list either, and I have heard of most of them.

    1. great minds think alike! It's super dissapointing since I loved all the HP books of course, but i found The Casual Vancancy to be overwhelming. too many characters and the plot was confusing. Thanks for checking out my post JJ!

    1. thanks Tori! i try to force myself to try them as well from time to time, but i've reached a point in my life where i ask myself: If i have to force myself to read this book, how likely am i to finish it? So I'm not sure if classics are for me! maybe one day! thanks for checking out my post!

  5. Interesting list. I like a lot of these, but I seem to be one of the few people who enjoy classics. I was underwhelmed by The Casual Vacancy, though.

    1. to each their own i always say! i know alot of people love the classics and i'm one of few who don't, but i've come to realize that over the years so long as i'm reading, i don't care what genre/how old the books are! thanks for checking out my post this week AJ!
