Audio Review: Finding Cinderella

Title: Finding Cinderella
Author: Colleen Hoover
Pages: 90
Publisher: Simon and Schuster Audio
Format: Audio
Rating: 4 Cows

Goodreads Description:

This novella is a companion novel to the Hopeless series, but can be read as a standalone.

A chance encounter in the dark leads eighteen-year-old Daniel and the girl who stumbles across him to profess their love for each other. But this love comes with conditions: they agree it will only last one hour and it will only be make-believe.

When their hour is up and the girl rushes off like Cinderella, Daniel tries to convince himself that what happened between them only seemed perfect because they were pretending it was perfect. Moments like that with girls like her don’t happen outside of fairytales.

One year and one bad relationship later, his disbelief in insta-love is stripped away the day he meets Six: a girl with a strange name and an even stranger personality. Daniel soon realizes the way he pretended to feel about Cinderella and the way he really feels about Six may not be so different after all. Especially when the two loves of his life end up being one in the same.

Unfortunately for Daniel, finding Cinderella doesn’t guarantee their happily ever after…it only further threatens it.

Finding Cinderella is a short companion to the Hopeless series but it is said that it can also be read as a standalone. Having not read the other books in the Hopeless series,  I agree that it can be a standalone. However, I do think that if I had read the other books in the series I would have enjoyed it more. It would have been nice to have a little background on some of the characters. Still, I enjoyed Finding Cinderella.

I loved how close the characters were in the story. Daneil, Holder, Skye, and Six are all so close. Daniel was so sentimental about it but it was cute. Daniel and Six's relationship was a love at first sight type relationship but it worked for me. There attraction was immediate and it was nice to hear the story from Daniel's perspective and to see what it was about Six that first attracted him to her. Also, I loved Daniel's narration because he was so funny. I actually laughed out load while listening.

Finding Cinderella isn't a full legnth novel. It's short but it still manages to tell you a great story. I found that the "difficulty" that Daniel and Six experienced was maybe a little cliche'. I would have enjoyed it more if the story had gone a different way on that part. I didn't hate it, it's just the one thing that I didn't really love.

The ending with the reveal about Skye and Holder's secret, I felt was a little rushed and I'm not entirely sure why it was put in there unless it tied in with the other books. My sister has raved about Hopeless for a long time so maybe I'll finally read it and find out.

Finding Cinderella is a short novella that is sure to have you laughing and maybe even crying. I didn't cry but I could see how some might. The narrator has a great voice and does an excellent job.

  1. I've never read anything by Colleen Hoover, even though I love NA romance. I know, I'm terrible haha. I've been waiting to read Hopeless for so long plus based on your review this companion novella seems promising too.
    Lovely review. :)
PS: The cow rating: cuteness overload. *-*
