Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by
This is such a fun topic this week and I can’t wait to hear what everyone’s problems are as well! Being a book nerd has its downfalls sometimes! These are just a few of mine!:)
Top Ten Book Related Problems I Have
1. Not enough space to store my books
-For those of you who don’t know me that well, I live at home and go to school full time. While this has its perks, it also means all my belongings have to fit in one room. If I had to describe my room in one sentence it would be this: tidy to a T with the exception of books laying everywhere. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve rolled over on a book or ten, in the middle of the night, due to the stacks of books piled up in my bed. Anyone else have this problem? J
2. Only wanting to talk about books in social settings
-The weather? Politics? That new reality TV show? Who wants to talk about those when your favorite character just got killed in last night’s chapter of the book you’re reading?! Sometimes being a nerd makes small talk with friends and family EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!
3. Sleep deprivation
-I could be running on 3 hours of sleep one day, and practically falling asleep in class, but if I get home at night and start reading a really good book, then hey. What’s one more night without sleep? Pass me the concealer. Tomorrow morning’s going to be rough on the eye bags:)
4. Spending too much money at the bookstore
-There is no self control when I walk into the bookstore. None. Whatsoever. Last week’s paycheck? Who needs to pay bills anyways when you can buy a 2nd or even 3rd copy of your favorite book for half off at Barnes and Nobles?
5. Trying to decide what fictional names I’m going to name my kids one day
-All I have to say on this one is I apologize in advance to my future husband.
6. Standing in line at book events and trying not to overhear spoilers
-This is one that has really been driving me crazy lately! The last couple book events I’ve went to, I’ve been standing in line and overheard spoilers for books I was really excited to read, but haven’t gotten to yet! C’mon fellow book lovers! You should know better than that by now! I might have to start bringing headphones to stand in line from now on!
7. Making book related jokes that no one understands but you
-Perfect example of this: this Christmas we were celebrating with my relatives, and someone asked which of the cousins wanted to open their gifts first, to which I yelled “I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!” Other than my one cousin who laughed, I was greeted with blank stares and a couple “Whatttt???s”
8. Being asked if I’m actually hungover when in fact I’m just dealing with a really bad book hangover
-This is a thing, I promise you. And if you haven’t been asked by a coworker or friend why you’re hungover on a Tuesday morning when you are actually suffering from a book hangover, then consider yourself lucky. There’s no good response to this question, I assure you.
9. Missing workouts, social obligations, and other events simply because I can’t put down the book I’m reading.
-I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO ARE CURRENTLY READING THIS. I cancel on plans sometimes because I’m reading a really good book. I KNOW! I’m terrible! But if you got the sequel to one of your favorite books you would do the same thing! I’m actually running out of excuses for why I can’t hang out. Probably a sign that I need to stop cancelling on plans…
10. Painting my nails, or reading a book?
-The only part of my day I typically have any spare time, is at night. For me, that means I have to make a hard decision: painting my nails so they’re done for tomorrow, or reading the book I’m currently on. This seems trivial, but for anyone who’s tried doing both before, you know this just does NOT work out! With the exception of e-readers that you only have to swipe the screen to turn the page, reading a book while your nails are drying only ends one way: with painted pages and messed up nails.
