25 Days of Book Boyfriends: Warner

I am so excited to be able to participate in this year's 25 Days of Book Boyfriends hosted by Lovin' Los Libros, Readers Live A Thousand Lives, and Starbuck & Books Obsession. I knew as soon as I saw the post that I wanted to participate and that I wanted to feature Warner from the Shatter Me series by Taherah Mafi. I love Warner and am super happy to be able to share my love for him with you! Be sure to check out the giveaway below so that you can possibly win a copy of the first book and fall in love with Warner as well.

So first things, first. I HATED Warner in Shatter Me. He was mean, ruthless, and pretty much the definition of pure evil. Then, I read Unravel Me and my heart softened to him a bit. Then, I read Ignite Me and absolutely fell in love. Never, in all of the books that I have read have my feelings for a character changed so drastically!

Once when I was trying to convince a friend of mine to read this series I began describing Warner to her. After a while she said, "So he's kind of like Klaus from The Vampire Diaries?" Then it hit me! "YES, YES, YES! HE IS LIKE KLAUS FROM THE VAMPIRE DIARIES!!" Honestly, that's the most accurate description I can give you of him. Yes, Warner does terrible things but deep down he isn't a terrible person. Plus, he's hot and he calls Juliette "love" AND he believes in Juliette.

Here are some quotes by Warner or about him:

“It's the kind of kiss that inspires stars to climb into the sky and light up the world.”  - Juliette on kissing Warner

“I like the way I feel about myself when I'm with him." I say quietly. "Warner thinks I'm strong and smart and capable and he actually values my opinion. He makes me feel like his equal--like I can accomplish just as much as he can, and more. And if I do something incredible, he's not even surprised. He expects it. He doesn't treat me like I'm some fragile little girl who needs to be protected all the time.”  - Juliette on how Warner makes her feel

“His hands are holding my cheeks, and he pulls back just to look me in the eye and his chest is heaving and he says, "I think," he says, "my heart is going to explode," and I wish, more than ever, that I knew how to capture moments like these and revisit them forever.

Because this.

This is everything.” Warner to Juliette and her reaction

“I'm not trying to fix you; I don't think you need to be fixed. I'm not trying to turn you into someone else. I only want you to be who you already are. Because I think I know the real you. I think I've seen him."
Warner says nothing, his chest rising and falling.
"I don't care what anyone else says about you," I tell him. "I think you're a good person.”  Juliette to Warner

About the Book

Goodreads Description:

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

  1. I never thought about the similarities between Warner and Klaus! You are spot-on though! I HATED Warner, and I admit, I couldn't force myself to read the rest of the series because of that fact. Maybe eventually I'll go back and give him another chance. :)

Thank you so much for participating in the tour this year!

  5. It was amazing how Ms. Mafi changed the perspective of Warner from being this cold, controlling megalomaniac to someone we actually squeal about while reading! Thanks for participating in the tour- so excited for the giveaway!! :)

  8. I haven't read Shatter me yet, but you've certainly made me want to. It's great that a character you hated in book one turned into one of your favorites! I don't like the whole bad boy thing, but I do like the whole villain thing. (If that makes sense)
