Goodreads Description:

Every Day meets Cloud Atlas in this heart-racing, space- and time-bending, epic new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure.

The truth is that I had very high hopes for A Thousand Pieces of You. I fell in love with the cover plus thanks to Kasie West and her book, Pivot Point, I loved the idea of alternate dimesions and a multiverse. I had read all but one of Claudia Gray's full length novels and enjoyed if not loved them all. Still, A Thousand Pieces of You disappointed me.

There were some things I liked about it so I'll talk about that first. During one time jump they end up in Russia and Marguerite is a princess. I loved the setting and atomsphere during that part. I felt connected to the characters in this universe more than the others. I also loved the idea of the multiverse but just didn't love the actuality of it.

The main thing I had an issue with was the romance/love triangle. I have never been one to really mind a love triangle. I actually like them most of the time. However, in this instance I hated it. In the beginning, I just knew that Theo was going to be the love interest. I didn't know why Marguerite liked him because we are just thrown into the situation. Marguerite and Theo have already formed whatever bond is between them and despite the occasional flashback (which I wasn't fond of by the way) I still didn't have much insight into why either of them liked each other. The second love interest I liked even less. It's a lot of back and forth with this one. There's also the problem of Marguerite not knowing if she loves a particular version of this guy or if she loves all the versions on them. That part really confused me and it's hard to explain without giving things away.

As for the plot, there were definitely some plot twists. Some I saw coming from almost page one (it was probably closer to page 15 but you get the point) but some I didn't. The thing about the ones that I didn't see coming was the fact that I didn't read it and then say "Wow!" instead it was more of a "O-kay". Hopefully, you get what I mean by that. Basically, it wasn't a game changer for me. I was connected enough to the characters or story to have my mind blown by those particular revelations.

I really wanted to love this book and I honestly thought I would. I know that it has gotten a lot of positive reviews so if you had already planned to read it I recommend giving it a try. If you're on the fence read a couple of positive reviews then make your decision.

**This is really closer to a 2.5 cow rating but I'm rounding up to 3.
