Goodreads Description:

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

I have only read two Colleen Hoover books so far, Maybe, Someday and Ugly Love but I think it's safe to say that she has a huge fan in me! Ugly Love is a suspenseful, heart-wrenching story with relatable characters.

I have to admit that I both loved and hated Miles and Tate. In end the end, love won out for both of them. Before I get to the love part, let me explain what I hated about each of them. Ladies first, I suppose. I hated Tate for settling for less than she deserved and knowing that she deserved more. Tate knows that she has real feelings for Miles but since Miles can't love her she takes what she can get. She settles for the little bit he can give her and puts her heart through so much. I hated Miles for doing that to Tate. Miles could tell that Tate really cared for him but he continued to see her anyway. He constantly tells her that it's just sex and to not to expect a future with him but does things that makes it impossible for her not to. Actions speak louder than words, Miles!

BUT....I loved Miles and Tate, far more than I hated them. Miles is impossible not to love. Despite his actions, it's obvious that Miles is a good guy. He's upfront with what he wants. It's also obvious that he has real feelings for Tate, but he's just too screwed up to let them out. It also helps that he's a pilot. I have always had this thing for pilots! Tate is a smart girl with ambition. I love that she was going to school and working. I loved that she was independent and didn't mind working hard. I loved her personality.

The book is told in two different stories. The first is Tate's in the here and now while Miles's is told six years in the past. This adds a level of suspense to the novel. You know that something happened to Miles to make him not want to fall in love but you just don't know what. The six years earlier chapters slowly reveal how he became the person that he is today. Also, can I just say that I love Tate's inner dialogues?!

Obviously, Ugly Love has a lot of sex. No, seriously, there's A LOT of it. That being said, I love the way Hoover writes sex scenes. I'm actually not a huge fan of sex scenes. Most of the time they just come off too cheesy for my tastes. Hoover's sex scenes somehow manage to not be cheesy. She doesn't use the porno-type descriptions found in a lot of romance novels.

I listened to Ugly Love on audio and really enjoyed the narration. I didn't like the narrator for Miles quite as much as I did the one for Tate but I still thought he did an okay job.

I highly recommend Ugly Love to Colleen Hoover fans or anyone looking for a great NA book!
