Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance.
I FINALLY joined the rest of the world and read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I've owned Shadow and Bone practically since it came out. I actually went to one of her books signings a year and a half ago. Everyone was raving about it and I wanted to read it, really I did but there was never time! I'm you all know how this is. Then one day audible had it on sale for $4.95. This was not an offer I could pass up!! I bought the book but still it sat on my ipod for a little while. I even started it one day then put it back down (it wasn't that I wasn't into it as much as I just wasn't in an audiobook mood). Finally, on my flight back from Puerto Rico I decided to start listening to it. By the time I was off the flight I was hooked!
Shadow and Bone is a unique story. I loved learning about the Grisha, the Shadow Fold, and the world Bardugo created. There was a lot of information to take in and since it's a more unique story is does require you to pay attention! I have a tendancy to drift off and start listening to other people's conversation when others are talking so I did have to rewind it a couple of times!
I loved Alina. She felt like a genuine heroine beacuse she had flaws and weaknesses that were easily visible. She wasn't perfect and never pretended to be. She made mistakes but she owned up to them. And the further the story went the more she grew as a character.
I found the plot to be very interesting! At one point, I actually thought, "Where is the story going to go from here? What's the big problem Alina is going to have to overcome? Things are going great. They have a plan and are getting close to putting it into action." Then, THEN I have the shock of a lifetime where something is revealed that completely throws me and all the plans for a loop! I was almost at work when I heard it and I swear I my mouth was gaping open and I walked into work dazed. I just really didn't see that coming. There were a couple of more minor things that I picked up on but given that one particular plot twist I have to still say that the plot was unpredictable.
I felt that Shadow and Bone had a more wrapped up ending. Things weren't roses and sunshine or anything but it was anywhere near to a cliffhanger. Still, I'm anxious to see what happens next and curious as to how things will play out. I'm still having difficulty believing that what I was told and shown is true and I hoping there is some redemption of some sort coming but at this point I'm not sure what this character could do to redeem theirself. Shadow and Bone is a fantastic book and I highly recommend the audio version! I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
