Armchair BEA: Young Adult Fiction

Design Credit: Nina @ Nina Reads

Here at Wholly Books, we are mainly a Young Adult book blog. I do sometimes post reviews or features for adult books but for the most part it's YA for me! I got started in YA after watching Twilight then reading Twilight and all of the other books in the series. After Twilight, I started The Mortal Instruments (which I also loved) and it just kept going from there.

I have both Twilight and YA in general to thank for my rekindled love for reading. I read a lot in middle school but it slowed down once I got in high school. Now though, I feel like I have found my great passion. I love reading and writing. My biggest dream is to have a published YA novel.

Everyone wonders how YA fiction got so big. Now, I can't speak for everyone but I do have a theory on why it happened. At least, this is why I think I love YA as much as I do. When you are a teenager you still have your whole life in front of you. It's the time when you are forced to make some of the largest decisions of your life. College? Trade School? Get a job? Move off? Stay home? What degree? What field? ect. There are so many options! So when a character is faced with all of the options and has something else thrown in the mix, say, a vampire boyfriend or a you must save the world scenario, things get really interesting! YA is always action packed and full of swoonworthy guys. I tend to especially love YA books that feature someone trying to change the world. I mean changing the world by age 18 is impressive.

Okay, so obviously I have a ton of favorite YA books but for the sake of time I just going to name a few.

Harry Potter
Vampire Academy
The Mortal Instruments
The Infernal Devices
Twilight Saga
The Archived
Pivot Point
The Hunger Games
The Immortal Rules
The Iron Fey
Wicked Lovely
Poison Princess
The Heroes of Olympus
Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Okay, I'm stopping now! I could go on forever! Who else loves YA??
