Goodreads Description:

She’s been six different people in six different places: Madeline in Ohio, Isabelle in Missouri, Olivia in Kentucky . . . But now that she’s been transplanted to rural Louisiana, she has decided that this fake identity will be her last.

Witness Protection has taken nearly everything from her. But for now, they’ve given her a new name, Megan Rose Jones, and a horrible hair color. For the past eight months, Meg has begged her father to answer one question: What on earth did he do – or see – that landed them in this god-awful mess? Meg has just about had it with all the Suits’ rules — and her dad’s silence. If he won’t help, it’s time she got some answers for herself.

But Meg isn’t counting on Ethan Landry, an adorable Louisiana farm boy who’s too smart for his own good. He knows Meg is hiding something big. And it just might get both of them killed. As they embark on a perilous journey to free her family once and for all, Meg discovers that there’s only one rule that really matters — survival.

THE RULES FOR DISAPPEARING was this close to get 5 cows! I realize you can’t actually see how close my fingers are but rest assured they are dangerously close. Seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I didn’t really know what to expect with THE RULES FOR DISAPPEARING. Okay, that’s not exactly true, I was totally picturing something along the lines of that Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movie, Our Lips are Sealed, where they are put into the witness protection program. (Yes, I was a HUGE Mary Kate and Ashley fan and am still upset they both left acting.) However, as much as I loved Mary Kate and Ashley, I think THE RULES OF DISAPPEARING was better. THE RULES OF DISAPPEARING is a much more serious take on the witness protection program. It deals with a lot of issues that you probably wouldn’t even think of unless you had to experience it.

Being in the witness protection program sounds sort of like this great adventure, doesn’t it? You get a fresh start, with new people, a new school. You get to be anyone you want. Sounds like a dream come true. Only, it isn’t. Imagine doing it over and over again and again. Just ask Meg, or Madeline, or Olivia, or Isabelle, It. Gets. Old.

The characters in THE RULES FOR DISAPPEARING were all great. I loved Meg and of course Ethan. Meg was so determined and headstrong I couldn’t help but love her. Ethan was definitely swoonworthy. He’s cute and actually treats Meg well. Plus, he’s way more understanding and patient than I could ever be.

I liked that it was more of a mystery novel. It was fun trying to solve the mystery along with Meg. Elston does a great job of giving you the right amount of clues. It wasn’t too mysterious but it also wasn’t too predictable.

THE RULES FOR DISAPPEARING is an excellent debut and I am anxiously awaiting the sequel. I was so excited when I heard there would be another book! I can’t wait to see how things develop for Meg and Ethan!
