Top Ten Tuesday (27)

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish!

Top Ten Topics That Instantly Make Me Buy/Pick Up A Book

I also included some of my favorite books for each topic.

1) Dark Subject Matter: I like sad and dark stories. The darker, the better, screwed up? Maybe.

- The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
- Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
- The Lucky Bones by Alice Sebold

2) Forbidden Love: We all want someone we can't have, right? ;)

- Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally
- On the Island by Travis Garvis Graves
- Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma (I truly hope no one wants this kind of love but it falls under this category best.)

3) First Love: They're sweet and awkward. Who doesn't love that?

- Anatomy of a Boyfriend by Daria Snadowsky
- Forever by Judy Blume
- What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones
- Sloppy Firsts Series by Megan McCafferty

4) Self-Destructive Behavior (high school students): You know those protagonists who have a lot going on and deal with it in probably not the best way.

- The Duff by Kody Keplinger
- Nothing Like You by Lauren Strasnick
- Not that Kind of Girl by Siobhan Vivian
- Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
- Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers

5) Bad Boy: I'm a sucker for musicians and fighters who are man-whores but turn good for a girl.

- Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
- Thoughtless Series by S.C. Stephens

6) Sarah Dessen: Anything that is written by her I'll read and probably love. That woman sure knows how to write chick-lit.

- Just Listen
- Along for the Ride
- The Truth About Forever

7) Books with Bigger Girls: It's a nice change when the female protagonist isn't so perfect. It's more real.

- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
- Jemima J by Jane Green
- Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

8) Zombies: I love zombies well pretty much anything that has to do with the apocalypse. Disgusting dead people eating other people. I mean come on that's just good action.

- Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
- Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
- World War Z by Max Brooks

9) Dystopian: I know you probably hear it all the time, but the world building is incredible. So much creativity.

- The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
- The Gone Series by Michael Grant
- Uglies Series by Scott Westerfield

10) Outsiders: They have the best stories.

- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
- The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

  1. Yay zombies! I totally left this off my list, but I swear I'll read just about anything with zombies in it! Also, I do love books that feature a girl who isn't perfect - especially girls who are on the plus side. Although I don't like when that defines them, but that's a whole other matter! Great list!

  2. Outsiders! I love that category. The Outsiders is my all time favorite book. Wish I would have though of that one.

  3. None of these are on my list but I like most of them. Brilliant suggestions :)
