Review: Endure

Title: Endure
Author: Carrie Jones
Release Date: May 8, 2012
Pages: 272

Goodreads Description:

It’s all-out war (and no-holds-barred romance) in the climactic conclusion to Carrie Jones’s bestselling series.

Zara is at the center of an impending apocalypse. True, she’s successfully rescued Nick from Valhalla, but it simply isn’t enough. Evil pixies are ravaging Bedford, and they need much more than one great warrior; they need an army. Zara isn’t sure what her role is anymore. She’s not just fighting for her friends; she’s also a pixie queen. And to align her team of pixies with the humans she loves will be one of her greatest battles yet. Especially since she can’t even reconcile her growing feelings for her pixie king . . .

Unexpected turns, surprising revelations, and one utterly satisfying romantic finale make Endure a thrilling end to this series of bestsellers.

My Thoughts:

ENDURE is the final novel in Carrie Jone’s Need series. In this conclusion, Jones delivers a fast paced novel from beginning to end. Jones tackles the age-old battle of good vs. evil in this riveting finale.
The one thing I have loved about each novel in the Need series is the little tidbits of information Jones gives in between chapters. In the first book it was phobias (which I loved!) and in the final book it was a notes from a FBI agent looking into the mysterious disappearances. It was interesting to see how people who didn’t know about the pixies tried to explain what was going on.
Since book one Zara has had the largest transformation. She went from a girl that had to rely on others to protect her to someone that could protect them. The scared girl we meet in NEED that has to recite phobias to calm herself is gone and replaced with someone who is able to stay calm, cool and collected in a crisis. Throughout the series, Zara always did what she thought she needed to even when she was afraid. However, it’s in ENDURE that we really get to see her shine.
In the beginning I loved Nick. I thought he was great for Zara but whenever Astley shows up my allegiance definitely changed. I couldn’t help but love Astley and even though Zara had her doubts. Don’t get me wrong Nick is an okay guy but in ENDURE (and the end of ENTICE) we see a different side to Nick and it’s not his best one. Nick can’t get past his prejudices against pixies and can’t get over the fact that Zara has become a pixie queen. In the end it’s Astley who always has Zara’s back and is there for her when she needs him.
ENDURE has plenty of action and suspense. There were several twists and turns along the way. I really didn’t know how this story would end. That being said, this book was short (under 300 pages). There was nonstop action but it didn’t last long. I do think it would have been better if it had been a little longer.
The only real complaint I had with ENDURE was the ending. I liked the way it ended. The ending was real and believable. However, I was left slightly confused at the end. I don’t want to give out any spoilers so I won’t go into detail. It may have just been me though. Maybe I missed something, somewhere.
Overall, I felt ENDURE was a great conclusion to the series. Jones didn’t just promise a war but actually delivered. She doesn’t take the easy way out and she doesn’t let her characters either. Jones takes her characters to Hel quite literally and you’ll have to read ENDURE to see if they all made it out alive!

  1. This sounds like a great series! I'm glad that this is the final book though; don't think I could get into another series that's only at the beginning! Not a very patient waiter for new books.
