Review: Illusions

Illusions (Wings, #3)

Goodreads Description:

Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.

But just as life is returning to normal, Laurel discovers that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail.

My Thoughts:

Illusions is the third book in the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike. I thought the first two books (Wings & Spells) were just okay but I really enjoyed this book. It kept me up to all hours of the night. I just didn’t want to put it down!

It had been a while since I had read Spells so it took me a little bit to get back into the world and for everything to start coming back. However, before I knew it I was completely consumed by the story.
In Illusions, we are introduced to a new character: Yuki. At first, I wasn’t sure if I should trust or not but as the book progressed I felt myself liking her more and more. She was so lonely I wanted her to have some friends and people that cared about her.

Tamani has had my heart since book one and this book didn’t change that. If anything, my feelings for Tamani were stronger than ever after reading Illusions. David is sweet and loyal but in the end (considering all factors) I don’t think David and Laurel have the bond that Tamani and Laurel have. Maybe, if he wasn’t in the picture it could work but with things the way they are I just don’t see it.
There were a couple of scenes in this book that I absolutely loved, however, I don’t think I can discuss them without being spoilery. Let’s just say that there is a fist fight that leads to a HUGE decision for Laurel.

I loved seeing Laurel learn develop more of her talents as a Fall Faerie. Her lessons have proved to be effective and it is obvious she takes them seriously and wants to learn more. As mentioned earlier, Laurel has a lot of decisions to make in this book. Some of them are answered, while some are not.

The storyline is Illusions really progressed. At the end, everything is coming together. The events from previous books begin to make sense, and you are given a small glimpse at what’s to come. Illusions sets the stage for an epic finale. As soon as you put this book down, you’ll be reaching for Destined, the final book in the Wings series! I know, I was!

  1. I wonder if the Wings series is any good as a gift? It seems really interesting and there are quite some good points stated in your review. Maybe I can gift the set to my friend c:

Take a look at Teenage Fiction?
