Tamani looked at her gravely, and reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear.
He hesitated for an instant, then his hands found the sides of her face, pulling her to him. He didn't kiss her, just held her face close to his, their foreheads resting together, their noses almost touching.
She hated how much it felt like good-bye.
Laurel now knows the truth: Yuki is a rare Winter faerie, the most powerful - and deadly - of all, and Klea plans to use her to help conquer and destroy Avalon. But Klea's reach extends far beyond one wild Winter faerie. With Tamani, David, and Chelsea by her side, Laurel prepares to face what may be Avalon's final days, in the stunning conclusion to the Wings series.
Destined is the fourth and final book in the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike. I think it the review I did for Illusions I mentioned that it set up for an epic finale and I must say that it certainly did. Destined is an action-packed love story that will capture your attention from literally page one!
I read this book immediately after reading Illusions and I finished it in one sitting! I was completely glued to the pages. I couldn’t wait to see how things would turn out. Would Laurel be with Tamani or David or neither? Who would die? Will Laurel be able to save Avalon? All of these questions and more are answered in Destined.
The plot is fast paced. The story picks up right were Illusions left off. They have discovered who Yuki is and now they are trying to figure out how to stop them. I loved how Pike added some Arthurian Legend with the bit about Excalibur. I thought that was an interesting storyline for David.
Another thing I loved was the actual battle. Pike didn’t do like some author’s do and not have a real battle sequence. The battle in Destined was real. People died, places were destroyed, and lives were changed. In a sense it was a difficult book to read because it was very emotionally charged but it was so worth. I loved every second of it.
In the end, Laurel does make a final decision about who she’s going to be with. I feel it was the right choice for her and I think anyone who has read the series probably already knows who she picks.
I have to say though that one of my favorite things about the book was the letter at the end. I won’t tell you who it’s between but I will say that it evokes some serious emotions. (At least it did for me). Pike even added a little warning note before it. Personally, I loved it. I thought it was an excellent addition to the novel. It made sense to me and gave me some closure. It was in a way heartbreaking but like I said it made sense. It was real.
Destined was an insanely fast paced, emotionally charged book. It is definitely a book that will keep you reading until all hours of the night. Most importantly though, Destined gives readers a real, believable ending that is both heartbreaking and satisfying.
