Review: Until I Die

Until I Die (Revenants, #2)Goodreads Description:
Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love.

As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting. Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series

My Thoughts:
Until I Die is the second novel in the Die for Me series by Amy Plum. I read (and reviewed) Die for Me last week and I didn’t love it. I was hoping that I would love Until I Die but again I just didn’t.
I keep trying to figure out what it is exactly that I’m not loving and I can’t really put my finger on it. I think it’s a combination of the writing style itself and also the characters. I just can’t connect to the book the way I do when I really love a novel. Until I Die doesn’t stir my emotions. I don’t feel for the characters. It’s kind of like when you’re going on a first date and the guy is nice and cute but you’re just not that into to him. Still, you go on a second date, thinking maybe the spark will be there this time. But it’s not. That’s how I felt with Until I Die. It’s not that the book isn’t good, the spark just wasn’t there for me.
Okay, so now to some of the stuff I actually did like. Again, the storyline itself was enjoyable. The pacing was good and kept me turning the pages. I liked that Kate begins training and learning how to defend herself. I love when the female MC can take care of their self. I liked the storyline about the “Champion” I thought it was an interesting twist. However, I did figure out early on who the real “bad” guy was. To me, it was obvious from the moment they showed up.
I really love the banter between Jules, Vincent, and Ambrose. I like how they go back and forth and how they joke around with Kate. I did feel like Ambrose was a lot like Jules was in the last book. I also thought it was odd who Georgia ending up getting a crush on.
I did enjoy this book more than the first one. It was about the same lines until the ending. I loved the cliffhanger! Now, I really want to read book three, just to find out what happens.
