My Soul to Keep-Review

My Soul to Keep (Soul Screamers, #3)

Goodreads Description:

Kaylee has one addiction: her very hot, very popular boyfriend, Nash. A banshee like Kaylee, Nash understands her like no one else. Nothing can come between them.Until something does.Demon breath. No, not the toothpaste-challenged kind. The Netherworld kind. The kind that really can kill you. Somehow the super-addictive substance has made its way to the human world. But how? Kaylee and Nash have to cut off the source and protect their friends—one of whom is already hooked. And so is someone else.

My Thoughts:

My Soul to Keep really picked things back up for me.  I wasn’t incredibly impressed with My Soul to Save so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed this book a great deal.

My Soul to Keep is the third book in the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent. In this book they are dealing with classmates’ addictions to Demon breath, an extremely addictive and dangerous drug. Of course, there is more to the story but you’ll have to read it to find out. ;)
I thought this book allowed a lot of character development for Kaylee. She finally comes to terms with who she is and learns how to handle all of her new found powers. My Soul to Keep forces Kaylee to do things on her own without Nash’s help and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing that. I love when the female main character learns to take care of herself and becomes the rescuer rather than the victim. It’s refreshing.
I did grow to like Tod a lot more in this book but I still don’t feel a romantic connection between him and Kaylee. She is too in love with Nash and I think Tod is still in love with Addison. Addison had some more redeeming character traits in this book. I genuinely felt sorry for her in this time around.
The pace of this book does start off a little slow but things definitely pick up around a quarter of the way in. The ending was difficult and heartbreaking. As a matter of fact, it was so difficult and heartbreaking I immediately picked up the next book in the series, My Soul to Steal.
This book sealed my commitment to the series. I am now officially “all aboard” and I’m riding this series to the end!
Grade: B
