Bloodlines Review

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)
Description from Goodreads
When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.
My thoughts
I absolutely adored the Vampire Academy series. And my favorite character? Adrian! So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Richelle Mead was writing a spin-off series set in the Vampire Academy world and that Adrian was going to play a large role in it. I couldn’t wait for it to come out! And I think that’s why it kind of let me down. I had such high expectations it was impossible to measure up. That being said Bloodlines is a good book. I really did enjoy it, just not as much as I thought I would.
To me, Bloodlines started off slow. Aside from the cameo appearance of Rose, the beginning is somewhat dull. I understand the need to introduce readers to the life of the Alchemists but I found myself disinterested in it. Things do begin to pick up toward the end but the action from Vampire Academy just wasn’t there.
Also, I found myself figuring out what was going to happen way before it happened. It was obvious to me at the very beginning exactly what happened at the court and what was going on between Jill and Adrian.
There were some things I liked. For starters, Adrian was in it! I enjoyed watching Adrian and Sydney go back and forth. Adrian is still hilarious. I also liked Eddie. I really see potential for an Eddie & Jill relationship. I think I would enjoy that a lot more than any of the other guys Jill was interested in. I also saw potential for Adrian and Sydney but I am curious to see how that will pan out. Sydney despite befriending and realizing that Moroi aren’t all bad, still has some deeply engrained beliefs about them. I’m just not sure how that’s going to play out.
Overall, I thought Bloodlines was a good book. I was hoping for more action and a better relationship for Adrian. However, I loved how the story ended and I can’t wait for the next book. Still have high hopes for this series!
