A Decade Behind...

A Decade Behind….

I’m doing something I swore I NEVER would.  Something I actually laughed at others for doing.  Now, over a decade later here I am eating my own words. I. AM. READING. HARRY. POTTER. Yeah, I know. Like I said, I’m a decade behind.

So a decade or so ago when Harry Potter was first getting big, I remember thinking “Why would I want to read a book about a little kid being a wizard?” Needless to say, I never read it. As time went by and the movies were made I still held to that belief. It wasn’t until I was in the theater waiting to watch Eclipse and saw the trailer for the final movie (or first installment of the final movie) that I finally went, “Man, why haven’t I read this yet?”  Still, I put it off. Then, I saw the trailer for the last movie and finally decided to actually read them.

I had bought several of the books at various book sales that I had gone to but I didn’t have the first one so I borrowed it from a co-worker. I gotta say it did take me a while to really get into but by the end of the first book I was pretty invested and picked up the second book almost immediately which I already had. So my thoughts on Harry Potter?

Well, right now, I’m about halfway through the 4th book and I’ve really enjoyed them. However, I must say that I still not a fanatic. It’s still not my favorite series but the books are enjoyable. I think part of the thing is that he’s so young and I tend to enjoy books more when the characters are just a wee bit older. As I get further into the series and the characters mature I think I’ll enjoy them more and more. Heck, I may end up a Harry Potter fanatic before it’s all said and done. There’s still time.

  1. Harry Potter has opened so many doors for fantasy writers. I'm glad you finally decided to conform (at least in this one instance).

Love your profile pic, btw. ;)

  2. Yeah, I am too. I just finished the fourth book last night and I loved it.

And thanks. BTW can't wait for Witch Song!

  3. I look forward to seeing how you feel about books 5, 6, & 7. I see what you mean about the age. I felt that way about Percy Jackson. Then again, I read HP when I was a kid/teen when I was around Harry's age, so I thought nothing of it.
